John Knight's Grandchildren Gather Together In Myrtle Beach
Courtney Gives Birth To Bryce Anthony Dasmerces
Sunday June 6, 2009 <> See Baby Pictures Below
The delivery process started about 9:00 p.m on Saturday, with a quick call to Grammy Rita, and then a race to the hospital. By 2:00 a.m., Courtney was dialated the required 10 centimeters, and the wait was on for Bryce to make the trip into the world. About six and half hours later the pregnancy was over.
More updates will follow, as will pictures when Rita finds time to upload them. John will be going down next week to spend time with the new member to the Colston-Dasmerces-Knight family.
Thank God, His Son, and his Holy Mother for the blessing of three healthy and happy grandchildren.
Five Generations Gather At Edens House
Burgess' Throw Great Cookout. Rally Big Success. Check Out The Pics Below.
The Southern Knights packed the warm and welcoming home of Leshia and Joey Burgess for a superb Sunday cookout. In addition to the Knight families of John, Tom, Brian, and Steve, the Goldfarb family, Bruce and Beverly also attended. What a great day it was. The Southern Knights want to thank the Burgess family for their awesome hospitality. The Burgess family and the Knight family have been friends for over 30 years now, and it just gets better. Love you. Pics below of the great time.
Southern Knights Hold Memorial Day Rally
The event organizer, Joey Burgess, started the ball rolling by planning a much awaited visit to see the new Elizabeth-Evan Given twins. Joey and first-year-bride, Leshia, have not been able to stop by because of a creeping, relentless cold. Joey's best-laid-plan was to stop by after Mass on Sunday, see the BEAUTIFUL ADDITION'S to the Knight family, and then have everybody up to the Burgess Estate for a Memorial Day weekend cookout. And then it goes twisty, turny and flip-- we have a Southern Knight Rally. Ya gotta watch those Southern Knight's.
It just so happened that Mooresville-Knight, Steve, decided to take the opportunity of the extra school day off for Memorial day to see the twins for the first time on this same Sunday. He would, of course, bring his own growing-up-quick young adults, Mike and Jessica, and saintly wife, Jodie-girl. Now when Grandpa mentioned to Joey that his high school friend, Steve, would be visiting on the same day, Joey, being the consummate host that he is, said to invite the Mooresville-Knight family to the cookout too. Six to a cookout just jumped to ten.
Ohhhh, if it just ended there. But Knights being Knights, the party isn't big enough, yet.
We'll, Burgess bride, Leshia, works with Dunbar-Knight, Tom. And, you can't leave out the Dunbar-Knight's when Mooresville-Knight-Steve is coming to town because they stay with the Dunbar-Knight's. And, when Mooresville-Mommy heard of the visit to the Great-Grandbabies, BAM, she and Mooresville-Step-Daddy are in the car and heading up the hillbilly highway faster then you can say "bring-on-the-mountaineers". Wellll, Joey, being the consummate host that he is said to invite them to the cookout too. Ten to a cookout jumped to FIFTEEN. At the Burgess House.
Ya gotta watch those Southern Knight's. If only it just ended there.
Knights being Knights, and talking being a forte, Morgantown-Knight, Brian, hears about the Rally and soon his Memorial Day plans are - off the boat - in the car - heading south -for that Burgess brazed burger. He will bring his brood of three, Samantha, Brian Jr., and big-timer David. Unfortunately, Wife-In-Waiting Ann won't be able to attend. Because of this the party won't be complete. But, Knights being Knights we carry on. FIFTEEN jumps to EIGHTEEN.
Well, Burgess Bride Leshia and Dunbar-Knight Tom are talking, and somehow? the idea is to invite Joey/Steve's high school running pal Bruce and wonderwife Beverly. Somehow, with Dunbar-Knight-Tom's help, EIGHTEEN, jumps to TWENTY. Or so. Or somewhere in there. Roughly. At the Burgess compound. Oh, please Lord, don't let it rain.
Pictures of the Southern-Knights Memorial Day Rally will be up here on Monday. Then The Burgess house will be under re-construction for the following week to ten days.
Joey and Leshia are great friends. We are very lucky to have them in the Knight-Burgess extended family. If you look real closely at the picture above, you will find them in the 2007 Knight Thanksgiving Day feast where about 27 gathered. Familes are messy, and this family is a hoot, and Joey and Leshia just make it better.
Courtney And Joey Get Word That Baby Bryce Is Going To Be a June Baby. And Big.
Daddy Joey, pictured at right with Aunty CoCo, aka Bryce's Mommy, is very proud. He is, like all daddy's of third term baby's, working hard at being patient with mommy, and playing video games. Because, as all daddy's know at this very important time in mommy's pregnancy, everybody needs their stress reduction tool.
The nursery is prepared for Bryce's impending arrival, but according to the chief baby doc that won't be happening in May. Bryce will be a June delivery. While it is a good thing that Bryce is healthy and growing strong, Grandpa and Grammy are on pins and needles waiting. Everyone knows that patience is not Grandpa's strong point and waiting on this grandbaby is getting harder by the day. And keep in mind that the longer it takes gives Grammy more time to buy Bryce stuff.
This is quite a blessing the Knight-Given-Dasmerces households have received this 2009. We continue to praise God for his Grace in the health and happiness of Elizabeth, Courtney and the grandbabies. And thank The Holy Mother for her guiding hand.
Lot's Of Growin' Goin' On
Daddy keeps the watch in the early morning hours after he returns from work after midnight. Mommy keeps the day watch while Daddy sleeps and the visitors and Grandparents are away. And then usually the action begins right after Daddy goes off to work at four o'clock. Visitors are very welcomed and often arrive after their day at work. Mommy's family will stop by, and Daddy's family too. And then the in-house Grammy and randpa return home after five o'clock to take up some slack in the evening shift.
It's all part of raising the twins. They are truly a blessing. And it will take a family to help with everything. Fortunately, there's a big family all around, and everyone has been pitching in to help. New pictures below and the old pictures were moved to the BabyPics page.
New Additions To Knight-Given Clan
On Tuesday, April 21, starting with the first birth at 5:18 pm and completing the birth cycle at 5:57 pm, two families were increased by one beautiful female, Kathryn Elizabeth, (glorious Irish name), and one handsome male, Brayden Cavender. Both the Given and Knight families were beeming with pleasure and pride.
The Given family patriarch, Ed Given, was overheard to say, "Now I'm not saying this just because I'm the granddad, but those are some good looking children". The Knight chief GrandPa, John Knight, quickly added, "Yep, they certainly have a lot of Knight in them."
The newborns left the hospital in fine health and will be spending a few weeks in the Mama wing of the Knight homestead. Pictures will be updated periodically on this website.
Mommy And Daddy Go Out On Date - Granpa Baby Sits
Evan and Elizabeth entered the Brave New World of letting someone else care for the twins for a few hours. Supposedly they were going out to dinner and maybe a movie, but Grandpa thinks they just drove out to a quiet, secluded area and took a nap.
Katheryn and Bradyn are eating about every 3 hours, around the clock. Now by the time you feed, clean, change, reload the bottles and grab a few minutes of shuteye, it's time to start all over.
PS. I let Grammy help with the babies a little.
Day Five Update
Bradyn and Katheryn want to thank everyone for the nice visits and wonderful gifts. Since they came home to Grandpa and Grammy's Thursday from the hospital, only 48 hours after they were born, the twins have been very busy entertaining family and friends. And they've been loving every minute.
Granddad Ed and Grandma April came to visit on Thursday. So did Grandma Debbie, and then she came back on Friday, too. Uncle Brian and second cousin Samantha drove down from Morgantown Friday night and spent half the day Saturday.
And the great-grandparents got in their time with the twins. Grandma Great Maggie and Great Grandpa David stopped by on Thursday before heading back home to Mooresville, NC. And on Sunday, Great-Granddad Tommy and Great Grandmom Barbara came over. And, of course, more family are due in next week.
Another big event happened on Saturday. Even though Mommy is breastfeeding, the twins have been having a hard time getting the rythm. But, hallelujah, on Saturday the twins started working out on a bottle. Up until this huge development, Bradyen was being fed with a syringe, and Katheryn also, some of the time. This new skill will give Grandpa and Grammy the opportunity to do the feedings, and leave Mommy up for just providing the special sauce. This should free up precious sleep time for both Mom and Dad.
Come Visit The Twins
While the Twin Angels, Bradyn and Kathyern, spend some quality time at Grandpa's and Grammy's house before heading out to meet the world, they would like to invite all family and friends to please come and visit. Just call 304-561-4567, or 304-539-0368 to set up a time. But remember that mommy and daddy must sleep when they sleep. Thanks.
Katheryn Gives Us A Scare. She Is Fine!!
Well here's the latest first, then the explanation.
First, Katheryn is ok after spending Sunday late night and Monday in Women's and Children’s Hospital. Katheryn's pediatrician has decided to keep her overnight Monday just to be sure. Every doctor that her mom and dad could get looked at her and says she's in good shape. A lot of 'oligist's poked and examined and they all say let's watch her a little while now, but she seems good. And, most importantly, the head nurse in the pediatrics monitoring ward says she doesn't need to be admitted there. And we all know doctors practice, but nurses do.
Now the rest of the story: On Sunday afternoon, Elizabeth was feeding Katheryn and bumped her head on the nightstand. She cried but, because she was feeding the crying subsided and everything went back to normal. Later that evening after Katheryn's bath she took a nap on Grandpa's chest. After about three hours of nap she wouldn't quickly respond to being prodded to awake to eat. When washing her face with cold washcloths didn't wake her up completely, it was decided to take her to the emergency room. More than 4 hours had passed since she had eaten last, way pass her tolerable time.
She showed some response in the exam at the hospital, but it wasn’t until 6 hours had gone by that she first ate anything, and even then it was less than half her normal amount. Everyone is getting scared by now. And, of course, every test they tell us they are going to do just increases the anxiety over this five day old angel.
The good news is about five o’clock Monday morning she began to fuss and complain and ate well. Not quite as much as normal, but close. She also started to react more and more. Things continued to improve from there till now she is just on “let’s watch and see” status.
Conclusion to this tale: They THINK that she probably had a headache combined with jaundice. These two factors caused her to slow down and sleep all she could and lose her appetite. Overnight the headache subsided and she seems to be good now.
I’ll update everything here later today, but I just now got off the phone with Elizabeth and she sounds much better herself, and confident that everything is good.
Signed a praying and blessed Grandpa.
Bradyn Discovers Thumbsucking
While his sister, Kathyren, recuperates in the light room aboard the USS Enterprise, Bradyn discovered thumb sucking. You can tell by the smile in his eyes how proud he is of this accomplishment. Or maybe it’s just gas.
Born just seven days ago this afternoon, his Grandpa is sure this is a major leap forward in Bradyn's development.
Katheryn Headed Home About 10:00am Tuesday
After spending the night in the light room on the USS Enterprise 1701F with chief engineer Jordy, Katheryn's Billy Rubin, (whoever that is) is now 11 and they have released her to come back to Grandpa's and Grammy's house.
Elizabeth and Evan will now take back main care duties for the twins, and visiting hours are open. Come one, come all.
Everybody Home And Happy
Katheryn and Bradyn are both back at Grammy and Grandpa's house, for the time being. Both are sleeping, eating, and body functioning just fine, so the house can now get back to the sleepless normal we weren't quite used to just yet.
Elizabeth and Evan are doing a great job of taking care of the two angels, and Grandpa fills in just enough to let Evan grab some sleep before he heads back to work. Elizabeth is doing a tremendous job of caring for the two, always keeping on top of the twins needs. It seems like she been doing this for years instead of just a week. Grandpa is proud of both Evan and Elizabeth. The Given family will be just fine.
And, of course, Grandpa has new pictures of Katheryn and Bradyn. Click here to jump to the new pictures.
Aunt Courtney Flies Home To Meet The Twins
Aunt Courtney flew in from Myrtle Beach today to meet the newest members of the family. Courtney is due with her own addition, Bryce Anthony, in June. Upon arrival Courtney took over the babies and was suprised at how precious and tiny are the twins. Bradyn weighed in about 4 pounds 12 oz. at the recent doctor's visit, while Katheryn tipped the scale at a whopping 5 pound 4 oz. It is not uncommon for babies to lose a little weight after birth.
Aunt Courtney will be staying until Sunday when she will fly back to Myrtle Beach. But she will get in plenty of quality spoiling time before she departs.
And, of course, here's today Grandpa's pictures!
